Business Scams

Businesses are being targeted by criminals in many ways.

  • Criminals pose as a regular supplier and ask you to update their bank account details for payments due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Your business is then tricked into sending money to an account controlled by the fraudster rather than the genuine supplier.

  • As HMRC grant schemes go live, businesses must be on the lookout for fraud attempts. Fraudsters prey upon those trying to protect their livelihoods and jobs.

  • Be cautious about unexpected urgent communications offering financial assistance from HMRC, the Government or other official sources. Check the information on official government websites.

  • If you receive an email that looks as if it is from a senior manager authorising a payment and sounding urgent, check it is legitimate, not an email that criminals have made to look like a legitimate source.
